I don’t get the opportunity to illustrate often but its a nice change of pace when I do. Esoteric Sports specializes in sports travel and needed some unique imagery for their site. I’ve always loved the “Michael Schwab” style, so I carried that look through all of the illustrations.

So, F.M. Allen (no relation) needed to rebrand themselves. With an upscale clothing line that consists of dress shirts, trousers, and safari outerwear, they needed a logo that encompasses royal safari style. This “crest” type logo treatment was definitely a new one for me. Making sure to include everything they wanted to show but still keep it somewhat simplistic. Not easy, but I’m pretty happy with the outcome. It’s definitely rewarding to see it used throughout their store.

There are just too many sites out there to try to follow all of the ones I would like to. But every now and then I run across a site like Soul Pancake and pretty much visit it everyday. I’ve always wanted to create a site with this same concept, where people can openly discuss their beliefs, or lack there of. Glad to see someone like Rainn Wilson bring this to life.
“We want to cut through the mindless drivel and get focused on why we’re alive, what art and Faith are for, and what this whole mess is all about. You know, the important stuff. There are no right or wrong answers, so speak up!” soulpancake.com

Being a designer, I usually spend a lot of time behind my desk choosing fonts and pushing pixels. But, every once in a while I get to hang out with some pretty cool clients. The folks at Brite Revolution are no exception.

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again… this is the best show on TV. Incredible writers.
In this latest episode, the Dillon Panthers head to the State Championship, while Tyra writes her college entrance essay:
“Two years ago, I was afraid of wanting anything. I figured wanting would lead to trying, and trying would lead to failure. But now I find I can’t stop wanting. I want to fly somewhere in first class.
I want to travel to Europe on a business trip. I want to get invited to the White House. I want to learn about the world. I want to surprise myself. I want to be important. I want to be the best person I can be. I want to define myself, instead of having others define me. I want to win and have people be happy for me. I want to lose and get over it. I want to not be afraid of the unknown. I want to grow up to be generous and big-hearted, the way people have been with me.
I want an interesting, surprising life. Its not that I think I’m gonna get all of these things. I just want the possibly of getting them.”

We just got back from Chicago where we visited the Field Museum, among other things.
The many wildlife scenes created there were so surreal. Almost as if I was waiting for them to come to life.

If I had to choose only one channel to watch for the rest of my life, it would be Discovery. From the Planet Earth series to Man vs Wild, it continues to intrigue and inspire. I love their commercial that 72andSunny created for them called “I Love the World”. AMAZING!

Went to the Killers and M83 concert last night at the Grand Ole Opry. One of the best concerts I’ve been to. Definitely as good as I remember them two years ago at the Ryman.
Check out some video from the show!

“I wanted to be a writer my whole life. But when I finally made it, I felt like a greyhound catching the mechanical rabbit she’d been chasing for so long- discovering it was merely metal, wrapped in cloth. It wasn’t alive; it had no spirit. It was fake. Fake doesn’t feed anything. Only spirit feeds your spirit, your own and the universal spirit… From the wise old pinnacle of my years, I can tell you that what you’re looking for is already inside you. You’ve heard this before, but the holy thing inside you really is that which causes you to seek it. You can’t buy it, lease it, rent it, date it, or apply for it. The best job in the world can’t give it to you. Neither can success, or fame, or financial security- besides which, there’s no such thing.
John D. Rockefeller was once asked, “how much money is enough?” and he answered, “Just a little bit more.” ~ Anne Lamott
